    Notes for FLORENCE JENNIE HOTTMANN:

My mother had a wonderful singing voice.  I didn't appreciate it when I was younger, but now I realize that it really was magnificent.  Mom was basically a housewife, although she worked part-time for a number of years at a used car store in Madison.

She had many, many health problems and suffered, like her father before her, from severe depression. Her depression manifested itself in the form of hypochondria.  Still, in her happier moments, she was a true joy!

    I miss her very much.

    Notes for WALDO STANLEY PETERSON:

January, 2000.  I guess that most people think highly of their parents, but I would like the world to know what a wonderful man my dad was.  He was so kind, patient, strong.  He worked as a plumber most of his working life, but his true love was nature.   Animals just seemed to gravitate to him; they loved him and he loved them.  Hunting and fishing was his joy.  He was also very artistic and an extremely talented wood crafter.  My sisters and I are fortunate to each have some of the things that he made through the years.  He took care of his mother all of his life.  She died, at the age of 103, just 2 weeks before he died.  My mother had died about 2 years previous, so I think that he died when he did because he was needed to care for them in heaven.

He was very proud of his Norwegian ancestry, but I know he also was proud of his English ancestry.  Dad was a very good-looking man.  He always took care of himself and always looked stylish.  He was a true joker and loved to tell stories, to laugh, and to make others laugh.  He liked his beer and spent a lot of time "taking minutes" (as he used to call it) in his duties as "secretary" of the Sports Bar.

I once asked him, if he could have lived anywhere in the world instead of Wisconsin, where he would have liked to live.  He responded, without hesitation, "In the mountains of Colorado."  He camped there often-even making it there after major heart surgery (he said he wanted to go then because he thought it might be his last chance, and he was right).

Dad would have been involved in all of the genealogy searches that I am now interested in.  I wish I had found this interest when he was still living.  It would have been great to share this with him.  And, he would have had a story to go along with each and every ancestor I discovered.

It's been 6 years since his death and I still miss him each and every day. (SallyJo Peterson Quamme)

I ( Gregory R Hottman) have a photo of David and Mary (Colson) Gildin,

    Parents of Harriet (Gildin) Stebnitz

    Grandparents of Irene (Stebnitz) Hottmann

    Greatgrandparents of Wendell Stebnitz Hottmann

    Wendell is my Father

Unlike my brothers and sisters, I spell Hottmann with only one "n", like some of my cousins. The result of an error on my birth certificate.  I have the photo scanned, and am willing to email it to any relatives. Contact me at ghott27027@aol.com

    Hello Gregory,

I am a Hottmann descendant and would be interested in that picture. My data base shows that Irene was married to Archie Hottmann (Archie's father was George Hottmann and his father was Christian Hottmann).  I am descended from George's brother, Charles).

I have a lot of information on the Hottmann branch, if you are interested in exchanging information.

    Please email picture to:  sallyjoq@yahoo.com

    Your cousin,

    Hi SallyJo,

Do you know Viola Farrell of Oregon?  She is also  descended from Charles.

Right now I have been scanning pitcures from my mother's side of the family, I hope to do the same with what I can find from my fathers side.  I would be more than happy to share any information I or my sister's have.

I live in Oregon and go to Stoughton all the time.

    Two files are attached:

Wilhelminia Yanka Stebnitz, mother of Herman Stebnitz, grandmother of Irene Hottmann

David and Mary (Coulson) Gildin,  parents of Harriet (Gildin) Stebnitz, grandparents of Irene (Stebnitz) Hottmann, greatgrandparents of Wendell Stebnitz Hottmann

    Best wishes,

    Greg

    Hello again, Greg,

Thank so much for the pictures; they are great!

Yes, I know Viola.  As a matter of fact, when we lived in Oregon (moved to Stoughton in 1996 after having lived in Oregon for over 20 years), she gave me a lot of Hottmann information.  I put it into my Family Tree Maker program and then gave her a copy of it.  Regretably, we have kind of lost track of each other since then.

And, since then, I've learned a lot more about the Hottmann's!

Where do you live in Oregon?  Have you lived there long?

Let's get together and exchange info!!!

    SallyJo

    Hi SallyJo,

We moved to Oregon in '84, we lived south of town for 8 years in Fayhey Heights and now live on the golf course since 93.

I've just returned from my sister's. She gave me all she collected in the late 70's including a picture of Geo Hottmann, all? his brothers and sisters, parents, two kids.  It has the names listed on the back!  I will be scanning that and others in the near future.

I work out of my home so I'm available just about anytime.  Let me know when you'd like to get together!

    Greg
